GYC Social – “Solstice Boat Building”

Every year to celebrate the winter solstice there is a small boat building event, FREE for all
our members and their families at Greenwich Yacht Club.

• Start time for boat building at the clubhouse is 2pm till 4pm, you can arrive anytime
onwards.
• Prizes will be awarded to the best boats in many categories at 4pm.
• Boat launching at 5pm
Here are the rules
➢ All boats must be biodegradable
➢ no bigger than 80 cms.
➢ You can build your boat at home or at the club.

We will launch all boats down the slipway after prize giving. Each boat will carry a tea
candle which needs to be lit before launch. You can bring your own tea candle or use our
tea candles.

We will release the boat on the tide to see how far they will sail, taking your hopes and
dreams for the year ahead, lets pray the boat does not – sink too soon, crash, get stuck in
the mud, gets knocked over, burn like a Viking pyre, or candle gets blown out……
Its great fun for all. Nancy will provide cardboard and other biodegradable materials if you
like to build your own boat at the club.
